Sculptor Shirley Macnamara’s exhibition at QAGOMA titled ‘Dyinala, Nganinya’ was the first comprehensive retrospective of her work, and was accompanied by a richly-illustrated hardcover exhibition catalogue. For this project I designed the branding and instructional signage, and co-designed the exhibition catalogue with my colleague Amy West. I particularly enjoyed creating the map depicting the artist’s home and surrounds.

The image of the woven spinifex artwork used on the cover of the exhibition catalogue was embossed and then overprinted with a raised UV varnish to mimic the feel and reflective qualities of the material the artist used to make the work. The book was edge-printed in a bright yellow-green to reference the coloured interior of spinifex grass stalks.
