Ellis Rowan: Colonialism and Nature Painting

QUEENSLAND MUSEUM COBB+CO. TOOWOOMBA

The Queensland Museum Cobb+Co. in Toowoomba is currently exhibiting a selection of paintings by artist Ellis Rowan, who travelled widely within Queensland in the late 1800s and early 1900s documenting local plant species in her distinctive and appealing style. For this project I was engaged by the Queensland Museum as an independent graphic designer, and I designed the exhibition’s accompanying 80 page softcover publication, as well as the exhibition graphics and merchandise. Rowan’s beautiful botanical paintings were a delight to work with, and I particularly enjoyed creating the range of products available for purchase. This exhibition remains on view until April 2025.
